Acapulco has come a long way since the first road between the port and Mexico City was constructed in 1531. The new toll highway makes the trip a breeze. Of course you can also fly in if you don't want to sit in a car for 3 or 4 hours. Oh, don't forget to keep your tank full if you are driving. There is a longggg stretch with no gas stations. On the other hand if you, like yours truly did, forget to fill up before leaving Acapulco for Mexico City you might make it to the toll-booth where you will find many locals with gas containers waiting for you. People have been running out of gas for so many years the locals know where the cars usually coast to a stop on fumes.
